I thought the ending was weak, though. The plane got shot down. I saw that coming from the moment it was suggested they fly over land, and it didn't really mean anything to the plot.
This is one of those stories with a cool setting, but nothing much happens in the setting. I would have liked a more involved story-line.
Still enjoyed it, though. Alternate history is always interesting.
